Be aware...the president of the Canadian Teachers Federation says, “Education faculties should put out the word that there is an oversupply of public-school teachers in some parts of Canada and students hoping to land a dream job teaching English or social studies in urban areas should "give their head a shake."
According to the National Post, there is a glut of teachers – especially in Ontario. Ontario grads have 41% employment rate; out of country teaching grads have 19% chance of getting a job in Ontario. There is still a demand nationwide for teachers of technology and French, math and science teachers. There is little demand for English teachers and social studies teachers. Some opportunities may exist in the rural Far North.
But don't despair. There are good news stories.
Example: Carl
My son-in-law's brother did his Masters in Buffalo and did his placements in Ontario. The teachers and principals got to know him and like him. He got hired and he is now a principal. Placements and connections are (almost) everything in teaching and (almost) every other profession.
Example: Teaching English Overseas
Students and parents all around the world want and need you in their classrooms. My son Tom and daughter Elaine are teaching in Korea and loving it! See www.asknow.ca
